Is The Spirit of Fear Leading You?

Guest Author Post - Michael Edwards from Faithwriters.com

For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Tim 1:7 BSB

Our question is the spirit of fear leading you?

We see in scripture that fear is a spirit that God has not given us. Have you ever considered that when you listen to and obey fear, you are listening to a spirit sent by the enemy?

I am not talking about rational fears, like not stepping out into traffic or placing our hand on a hot stove. I am talking about the irrational spirit of fear that steals and torments with doubt, shadows, the unknown, anxiety, worry, indecision, what-ifs, or what are they going to think questions. Its mission is to steal, kill, and destroy.

Has the spirit of fear stolen life from you? Maybe close relationships, opportunities to be blessed, friends, jobs, health, time, and more?

The spirit of fear whispers to us, leading us in the wrong direction, away from God’s wisdom, peace, and protection and into worry and hopelessness. Into a place that often leads to acts of desperation and sin. Exactly where the enemy wants us.

God’s desire is that we see the spirit of fear for what it is, a liar. One of the Greek definitions used for fear in the New Testament means to put to flight. So, when God tells us not to fear, He is telling us to not run or flee. The spirit of fear can only lead us into a pit.

He who flees at the sound of the terror shall fall into the pit, Isa 24:18a BSB

God’s peace and blessings in all circumstances come as we keep all eyes on Jesus, stand strong in our faith in His promises, and let God’s wisdom and peace lead us.

The good news is that courage cannot exist without fear and God’s strength and courage are knocking on your door right now.

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deut 31:6 ESV

Let’s make a firm decision today to no longer be led by the spirit of fear, place our hearts in heaven, and let the peace of the Holy Spirit lead us.
