and today we're going to look at what

the word of God says about the power of
our words I know as children you know
most of us remember saying or hearing
somebody else say sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. yeah well, there are bratty little girls.

but well we're gonna find out today

as we're gonna see that this really

isn't true
00:42
i mean it's simply not true words do
00:44
hurt us
00:45
words hurt us and it hurts others and

once they're released

then they can't be put back in they're

there

and if you think about a tube of
00:55
toothpaste and i know i've seen this
00:57
demonstration before like in
00:59
youth groups and everything and and you

take a tooth tube of toothpaste and you
01:03
squeeze all the toothpaste
01:05
out well then you hand the tube of
01:07
toothpaste to somebody and say okay go
01:09
ahead now try to put all that toothpaste
01:10
back in
01:11
right and you can try as hard as you
01:13
want you might get a little bit back in
01:15
but you won't get all that toothpaste
01:17
back in that tube
01:18
right so it just won't work to get all
01:21
of that back into the
01:22
tube um and our words are kind of like
01:26
that once they've been released into the
01:28
atmosphere
01:29
they're there they are empowered and
01:31
they're
01:32
either empowered by god for blessing and
01:35
for good
01:36
and for encouraging or their um
01:40
empowered by the enemy for cursing for
01:43
negative for um for
01:46
negative results in our lives or in the
01:48
lives of others
01:50
and i heard this story a long time ago
01:53
and i even looked it up to check it out
01:55
to make sure that it was true
01:56
right and um it's a story about a ham
01:59
operator

you know the the ones that can receive
02:03
messages
02:04
through their radio system and so he was
02:06
operating his ham radio
02:08
and picking up uh you know talking to
02:09
his friends and talking to different
02:10
people
02:11
when all of a sudden this message came
02:13
um out of the blue and he was receiving
02:15
this message
02:17
and it was very odd he couldn't figure
02:19
out what it was
02:20
it was i think in another language if i
02:23
remember correctly i think it was in
02:24
german
02:24
and he was trying to figure out what
02:26
this message was and what was going on
02:28
and and so he he just kept receiving it

over and over and over
02:33
so he got his friends to come and to
02:35
listen to find out what this was
02:38
and one of them said wait a minute
02:40
that's german and so they got somebody
02:41
to interpret it
02:43
and it was a message they figured from
02:46
world war
02:47
ii that was released into the atmosphere
02:51
during world war ii and was up there in
02:54
the atmosphere someplace
02:55
and was finally being received by this
02:58
ham

operator and so it showed me and

indicated to me
03:03
that our words are out there in the
03:04
atmosphere sometimes sometimes they're
03:06
not received right away but sometimes
03:08
they are and when we release them
03:10
they're there and i was just you know i
03:13
mean this story was just astounding to
03:14
me just to think about
03:16
because it really caught my attention to
03:18
think well those words are out there
03:19
and they're there someplace and they are
03:22
and they can
03:23
now have an impact on someone else yeah

and you know patsy i mean we can stop

right here i mean this is our whole

lunch and learn today

because you know really we can just pick

this apart because you know you think

about that

our words never die is what we're saying

they never end

they go round and round and round you

know i've been watching a lot of uh

programs about space i don't know why
03:43
but um uh
03:45
i'm not a space person either probably
03:46
my husband isn't but i've been really
03:48
you know getting into
03:49
um watching some of these movies over
03:51
and over again and
03:52
you know you think about these these
03:54
rockets going around and around
03:56
the the earth when they were learning to
03:58
try to go to the moon and all that kind

of stuff

but that's you know in my mind that's

what i'm envisioning these words are

just out there

and you know um and i mean

i just that to me so what

power you know when we say something

to put a watch before our mouth is this

really something that i want to go on

forever oh my i'm in trouble yeah

you know so um because our words have
04:25
power

because we're created in his image i you

this is such a huge revelation to me

when i learned this so many years ago

see god spoke the world into existence i

always say well all we need is

genesis and we got everything we need

because i have a few favorite books

right and genesis is one

of them but you know he spoke the world

he took chaos and he spoke

order into it he created out of
04:48
nothingness
04:50
with his words then the word tells us
04:52
that we're created in his
04:53
in his image right um which
04:57
will really i mean i can go on and this

alone can be a teaching but

hebrews 11 3 tells us i'm going to quote

the esb which is the english standard

version which is unusual for me because

i usually use the niv but

this uh worked out really well by the by

faith we understand that the universe

was created by the word of god

so that what is seen was not made

out of things that are visible right

let's say that again it's to me it's

like it's backwards but

how they pronounce they say it it was

the word the world and the universes

were made out of what was not seen right

it was made out of things that wasn't

and he created it out of nothingness and

what did that the power of god's word so

today as we go through this i want you

to start thinking about the power of the

words that you speak
05:56
the power of the words that have been
05:58
spoken over you and the power of the

words that are being spoken into the
06:02
universe today

you know i do a big teaching um at my
06:05
church um
06:06
my husband and i are associate pastors
06:08
and um
06:10
one of one of my responsibilities is the
06:12
prayer in the church and i teach prayer
06:14
i'm trying to lead people into
06:16
experiencing more of prayer but even in
06:18
prayer we have this power to create and
06:21
i don't want to go into that because i
06:22
can go into a big place with where
06:24
words can go with power but see we are
06:27
in his image um partly be partially
06:31
because of the power
06:32
that we have with words right not only
06:34
do should we look like him act like
06:36
him feel like him we should speak like
06:38
him we should
06:39
create like he can um you know and you
06:43
you've heard people say oh you know
06:46
they're part of the name of claimant
06:47
club you know
06:48
i i don't like that it has a negative
06:50
connotation to it but there is some
06:53
truth in the name it claimant
06:55
club there are other things besides
06:57
naming it and claiming it but speaking
06:59
it

has the power to create and only

man this is interesting too think think

about this

only man has the ability to communicate

through this broken word

right this is a powerful and unique gift

from god when

adam gave when god created the universe

he created this

beautiful place the earth and the garden

and the animals and everything right it

was perfect

then he sent man in there right and only

man

uh this day you know i don't know you

know what you believe about back in the

garden maybe all the animals

spoke then but man is the only one

who is powerful enough and unique enough

to be like god that we can speak

amen so one of the things that we have

to

understand and realize because of the

power of our words

we can use them to either destroy
07:50
or to build up yeah to create or to tear

down

and in proverbs 18 21 it says death

and life are in the power of the tongue

and those who love it will eat its
08:03
fruits
08:04
so we have to be cautious about our
08:07
words we have to be
08:09
conscious of our words what we're saying

are we how are we using our words are we
08:15
using them
08:16
um to bring life to people
08:21
love blessing compliments victory
08:24
encouragement

or are we using them to bring death
08:28
hatred

condemnation judgment complaining defeat

slander all these things that can tear
08:35
people down and tear us down even
08:37
against ourselves we have to be cautious

that we're not speaking
08:40
these things over ourselves right
08:42
because not only do they have an impact
08:44
on others they have a negative impact on
08:46
us and can bring death to us or life to
08:49
us
08:50
and we'd want to speak life we want to
08:53
be a blessing
08:54
we want to encourage that's what the
08:55
word of god says to us

words are so important that we're going

to have to give an account

of what we say when we stand before the

lord someday

in matthew 12 36 and 37

tells us that wow patsy again you're

you know what you just said we could we

could unpack this all day and spend

all day talking about this but there's

just a couple of things i thought of

when you're talking about it first of

all if you

you have been one let's say you just

started out on your journey as becoming

a holy to

totally holy sold out to the lord or

maybe you're just starting to realize

well there's more

to this than fire insurance as i put it

don't let the enemy put you in guilt

right because right
09:39
right now god is giving you a chance to

make a make a repentance and turn and go
09:44
the other way
09:45
um he's he's saying okay uh don't beat

up over what was
09:49
let's talk about what's gonna be so

don't you know i just wanna

encourage you don't turn us off because

you're like oh that's too late for me

i've already done it because

you know god is about redemption amen

i wanna uh patsy and i had a few of the

same mentors

right three of them that i know of um

particularly

and one of those mentors um has

graduated i say and one has went on to

her reward

and she had a great impact on both of us

um but

she in this way and in the area of

forgiveness words and blessing

you know i would i would group those

three is probably some of the most

powerful

and what she used to say which i didn't

quite get but now i get

you know it takes you sometimes a while

or does me to marinate in something

before the light bulb comes on

so she would say you know the power of

our words god

loves it you know when we talk about him

he comes and joins us

when we build him up isn't that what the

scripture says when we worship him when

we praise him he comes and

enters in but she used to say this is

where i would be like i don't get it

but she'd say but he also loves it when

we build each other up

he comes and joins the conversation when
10:59
we're pouring on the blessing when we're
11:01
pouring on the encouragement when we're
11:02
pouring on life when we're pouring on
11:04
victory when we're importing on
11:05
encouragement he comes and joins us and
11:08
i'd be like

i don't get it why would he do that who
11:10
are we and i did i don't think at the
11:12
time i really had a true understanding
11:14
of who we
11:15
are um in our relationship uh
11:18
to uh the master having that
11:21
that ability to speak those words of as
11:24
patsy just said love and blessing

compliments victory encouragement

you know we also i don't know patsy i

don't know if i'm getting ahead of

myself here but i know that
11:32
we've also said that that um our words
11:36
have power and depending on what we
11:38
speak

a spiritual entity will jump on to it to
11:40
make sure that it comes about

so so um patsy before i move on to the

next do you have any comments about what

this um subject so much because it can

change your life so

encouraging or to be wholesome or

unwholesome right

we have the power to be positive or

negative have you ever been with a

nelly right oh no matter what you say

they can turn it into something negative

and you're like like

i just can't take this it's like being

under way around this person

we have the choice to be a blessing a

curse in our situations

and uh for ourselves for our families

for our cities for our
12:26
congregations right we have that choice

see paul wrote don't let any unwholesome

talk come out of your mouth but

only what is helpful for the building of
12:35
others up according to their needs that
12:36
may be benefit to those who listen

that's in ephesians 4 29

see the greek word for unwholesome is

translated

rotten or foul you know we think of

foul as swear words but you know
12:49
sometimes the things that we say to

people are just as foul

paul is urging us to be a blessing to

those that we come into contact with on

a daily basis basis

you know and we should follow jesus

example whose words were always filled

with grace and love and strength right

he said to the woman you know neither do

i commend you

condemn you go and say no more right i

don't remember him the only place we see

in scripture in which

he was uh pretty um

ticked i guess you could say is when he

turned over the temple the the tables in

the temple you know

it wasn't the people it was what they
13:23
were doing he's it's about what we do

you know that he gets upset with not
13:28
with who we are because he loves people

yeah i think that too he he also called

the

scribes and pharisees vipers but

that's true but they probably were

acting that way
13:42
and so he had a very valid reason to try

to because he was
13:46
hurting his people they yeah you know in

that time period they were deceiving the
13:50
people and that's

right and jesus was so upset with them

from doing that

and i you know this is off subject a

little bit but i i want to i want to
13:59
say this too i think you know i relate

that today is
14:03
those who are building their own kingdom

right not building
14:07
his kingdom and that's what i see as a

pharisee how i relate it to today

they're more worried about their own
14:13
kingdom than they are the kingdom
14:14
they and
14:18
and so a lot of this is related to the
14:21
power of our words as an overflow of
14:22
what's in our hearts already
14:24
yeah because um in matthew 12
14:27
34 and 35 it says for out of the
14:30
abundance of the heart
14:31
the mouth speaks the good person out of
14:34
his treasure brings forth good and the
14:36
evil person out of his treasure brings
14:38
forth evil
14:39
so in other words what you put into your
14:41
heart
14:42
is it good is it wholesome is it
14:45
encouraging is it you know truth from
14:48
the word of god
14:49
or are we focused and concentrated on
14:52
all that ugly stuff and because what
14:56
will happen is that will pour forth you
14:57
can hold it back for so long

but eventually it will pour forth like a

pressure cooker and spill over
15:04
somebody and have a negative impact on

them we need to guard and examine our
15:09
hearts daily

you know try to keep your hearts as pure

as possible look at that repent like we
15:15
said it's easy just repent say you're
15:17

say lord forgive me you know this is a
15:19
bad attitude i have right now
15:21
and i need to ask your forgiveness

please change my heart wash my heart
15:25
cleanse my heart that's what david did

and we know all the sin david committed

and he still was considered a friend of

god

and and so i just think wow you know

even
15:37
all the mistakes he made he still tried

to cry out to god and ask for that

cleansing and that forgiveness

he didn't walk in that shame and

continue to walk in that shame

he knew he had to wash and get his heart

clean before god

when our hearts have been changed by the
15:55
power of god

that change is reflected in our words

yeah so when we allow god to come in and

change and cleanse our heart

that's reflected in what we're saying to
16:04
others or about ourself even

and as believers our mouths should bring

glory and honor to god
16:11
and cursing someone and putting people
16:13
down
16:14
and and being negative and saying
16:17
negative things about them
16:19
don't bring that glory and honor to god
16:21
because like cynthia said

you know we're to encourage god wants us

to be that blessing god wants us to be
16:29
that encouragement to others and we can
16:32
do that through our words

they should bring life to others not

death like we said before our words

should be full of blessing

not cursing yeah or what are we aligning

with right that's right
16:42
when we speak words of life we're
16:44
aligning with life when we speak words

of death where we align

truly right and you can know you can

tell the difference i know immediately

when that comes out of my mouth it's

like oh my gosh i shouldn't have said

that

that is wrong and you can repent i mean

you can repent they can't go back

in but you can repent and ask god to

forgive you and to

even um pray for that person

you know pray blessing over them if it's

about somebody and pray

pray that nothing will happen as a

result of your

your words that you just spoke and say

lord break that break anything that

could have been spoken over them that

would have a negative impact over them i

ask you to forgive me for that

um so our heart when our words are full

of blessing

our hearts are full of blessing it all

ties together

so that works together heart and and
17:35
words can work together so if we fill

our hearts with the love of jesus

only truth and purity will come out of

our mouths

wholesome things will come out of our

mouths right love life will come out of

our mouth

when our hearts are so full of jesus so

full of his love

so full of him then that's what's going

to come out of our hearts

so many people they they have no gifts

you know that is a huge gift in the

kingdom whether you use it to speak over

people

um in your in your day-to-day existence

whether you use it in prayer which is

huge that we underrate so much

um what a gift and a tool that everybody

has but
18:18
how few truly use it absolutely

now our power of our words should really
18:25
be used by god to manifest the power of

our faith

in first peter 3 15 it tells us this our

words should demonstrate the power of
18:35
god
18:36
and the indwelling of his holy spirit in
18:38
our lives we should just
18:40
um be that light in those dark places we
18:43
should emanate that and our words should
18:45
follow that
18:46
our words should emanate that power of
18:48
god in our life
18:50
whether we're praying for someone
18:51
whether we're um talking to them about
18:54
the lord and sharing our faith
18:56
they should draw others to jesus they
18:58
should draw others to him not try to

you know because if people listen and
19:02
hear what your words are
19:04
and they will pay attention to what
19:05
you're saying and if you're always
19:06
negative about something and always
19:08
complaining about something and always
19:10
being
19:10
you know they're going to hear that and
19:12
go why do i want to be a christian

why would i want to follow christ

because that doesn't sound like it's
19:16
very much fun

and guys i'm going to turn out like that

person you know
19:21
dangerously i mean i know no thank you

i'm not gonna do that
19:24
so so when um we're sharing

the love of christ with others and to
19:30
share about
19:31
his sacrifice for them we need to make
19:34
sure our words are reflecting

that that's what's in our heart our
19:38
faith is in our heart the faith in our
19:39
heart

is being poured out that love is being
19:42
poured out
19:43
that relationship with jesus is being
19:46
poured out
19:47
so that that can draw them to the lord

right and you know patsy um to jump on

you know when you said that um our words

should demonstrate the power of god

our word should match what we do right

absolutely that's where our

our outward and our inward and our

actions all come together and fit

together that's what's so cool about god

is that everything really connects if

you get a true understanding if you get

the basics down

you know you know who god is you know

who you are you realize that there's a

spirit realm

um what your part is in the on this

earth why you're

here what is the assignment against you

what is your assignment for you

these are you know all the things that

we talk about but the power that you

have as an individual

to be who god created you to be and to
20:31
do what he created you to do

right and so you know today we're

talking about the power of our words and
20:36
they can be used by the enemy to curse

others and ourselves we do it all the
20:40
time

james 3 9 10 says with it our tongue we

our lord and father and we with it we

curse people who are made in the
20:49
likeness of god

if we truly looked at others and it says

then it comes on continues on with the

same mouth come blessing and curses

think about it people it does it happens

all the time if we really considered we

looked at

every person and said that is god's
21:03
child whether they're manifesting it or

whether they're living in it whether

they're choosing his way

right there's value and who that person

is and they have a contribution

to this world and if we thought of it

that way

to speak into what god to see the god

part and speak into that
21:21
rather than coming again oh they're just

evil we need to pray against them no

it's not people it's the spirits behind

people

so i'm getting off a little bit here you

can see i get really wound up about this

stuff but

you know from the same mouth comes

blessing and curses

you know it happens to us over and over

again when we get irritated when things

don't go the way we want and the person

pulls out in front of us interact back i

from every little thing to big things

right

we just need to speak life we don't

think about

the ongoing like your world war ii story

that ongoing of it's out there rotating

and the enemy says oh i can use that i'm

going to grab that and use that in this

situation because words have power they

create

the devil can't create he's the created

being

he can only use what is and twist so

he'll grab it and use it because the
22:10
only power he has here

since the cross right since jesus is the

victor

is what we allow him and we allow him to
22:19
traffic in our lives and our
22:21
people around us lives in the world

today in our political systems our
22:25
educational systems and every kind of
22:27
system by the words that we speak
22:30
and so i don't want to be accused uh it

really
22:33
accused by the enemy or well i will be
22:35
because he hates me
22:36
radiates all of us we we love jesus but
22:39
i don't want to be one who stands before
22:41
god as patsy also said earlier

and when i have to give an account for
22:45
those words you know i sent you there to
22:47
build my kingdom

and how did you build it what did you do
22:51
and what about this

and why didn't you you know sometimes

we're guilty about what we don't do is

what we do

so um that scripture goes on says my

brothers

for us the ladies those you know my
23:03
sisters

these things ought not to be so this can

have a tremendous negative impact

impact on the lives uh on people's lives

on our own lives and you know

this is you know in one of the pillars

of the

the um topics that we do when we
23:22
take someone through ministry is we have
23:24
a few
23:25
few uh different pillars that hold up
23:28
the ministry that we do and words is one
23:31
of those things and how they manifest in
23:33
people's lives people who are broken
23:34
have had words spoken over them
23:37
their identity is wrapped up in the
23:39
words that have been
23:40
spoken to them and over them and right
23:42
into their their you know from children
23:44
right into their little lives from
23:46
babies
23:46
right into their little spirits and had
23:48
us formed who they are which to the
23:50
enemy says
23:51
yes i got them away from what who god
23:53
created them to be
23:54
by hurting them with this word and by
23:56
forming them into this thing that
23:58
they're really not

and so these power of these words is a

part a big part of
24:04
you coming into agreement with what god
24:06
who god is
24:07
what he says what his character is what
24:09
he says about you
24:10
finding out who you truly are not what

things that people have said over you
24:14
right
24:14
and so um we deal with um
24:18
those words we deal with the identity um
24:20
you need to deal with
24:21
your identity you need to take a look at
24:23
that what are these words that you're
24:24
hearing
24:24
that you're speaking that have been
24:26
spoken over you that you've spoken over
24:27
others
24:28
do you have children that you've formed
24:29
by your words you know
24:31
we start thinking about this but you
24:33
know what god's redemptive and he can
24:34
make things he can make up right
24:36
so we we want to
24:40
give you this um teaching this concept

about the power of words but you know
24:45
we've talked about blessing and um when
24:47
we we start speaking over people or we
24:49
start speaking those negative words
24:51
against ourselves or against others we
24:53
call those word curses
24:55
you say oh i i don't believe in curses
24:57
because you know jesus died on the tree
24:59
and he took all my curse
