Independence Day Are You Celebrating and Taking Your Place?

Today is Independence Day YAY! For us here in the United States, we have so much to be thankful for. I can sit at my computer and write about what I think, what I feel all the good stuff and even any bad.  I can speak about any person or any part of our government without fear of being placed in jail.  (Well I think there might be a few instances of things we should say or do.)  I think you understand what I mean though.

Even though I do celebrate today and thank the Lord I was born here in America, I still grimace inside when I say Independence Day. We are not islands off on our own. We are a collective of individuals who “hopefully” are working toward great goals and ideals together.

I say of myself that I am an independent person, who else would move 1,078.3 miles across the country with three daughters who were 13, 10 and 7? Who else would move from the small town she had always lived in to embrace a new life? Even though I might be shaking on the inside I push myself to embrace new challenges and go places I have never been.

I used to joke and say the best way to get me to do something was to tell me not to. I have that in me and it serves me well in new situations.

One facet of my family tree traced our roots, to discover where we came from?  Interestingly enough we came over on the first ships and my many greats grandfather was second in command.  The group I come from were considered separationists.  They didn’t want to work within the structure, they wanted to start all over and build something new.

You I can relate to that in my generations, so many times we are trying to fix something that is broken rather than starting from scratch.  I have often be heard to say you can put a ribbon on a pig, it looks better but it’s still a pig.  With those thoughts put aside, I am very thankful my prior generations decided to start this new thing that ended up being called America.

Even though I do celebrate today and thank the Lord I was born here in the United States, I still grimace inside when I say Independence Day. We are not islands off on our own. We are a collective of individuals who “hopefully” are working toward great goals and ideals together.

I can’t help but turn independence into a spiritual topic, I am independent enough to not rely on others for my spiritual food, I am independent enough to not care of someone doesn’t believe as I do. But I am dependent enough to know that I need God and I need others around me.  I need others to continue to help shape me.  Rubbing off the too sharp edges and sharpening me as iron sharpens iron.

Today on this beautiful wonderful celebration day, July 4th I say happy 4th of July and may we together forge toward common goals, may we all rely on our Heavenly Father to lead and guide this great nation.  May we stand up and take our stand to speak the truth and fight for freedom. And may we always be found as a nation upholding Israel and praying for the peace of Jerusalem.
